Acquaint Week is all about showing support for the Acquaint community by participating in a variety of volunteer opportunities. It's a time to learn new things and help overcome hate in the world! In this post, we will cover the different activities and explain what it takes to earn special Acquaint Week badges!
How to Get Involved During Acquaint Week
There are a few ways to get involved during Acquaint Week, whether you have a lot of time or just a little. Here’s how you can participate and make an impact:
- Do Sessions: Sign up for additional sessions to help break records.
- Take Communication Training Courses: Sharpen your communication skills and earn badges by completing our training courses.
- Refer a Friend: Share the Acquaint experience with someone new and earn referral badges for successful signups.
- Attend Get-Togethers: Join our Zoom get-togethers and connect with fellow volunteers.
- Donate: Contribute to Acquaint’s mission if you can’t volunteer but still want to help.
Why Participate in Acquaint Week?
Acquaint Week is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the world. Here are the key reasons to get involved:
- Grow Acquaint: The more we grow the more impact we have as a community. We believe that if enough people participate in Acquaint we will be able to collaboratively solve the world's most pressing problems.
- Overcome Hate and Build Skills: Every conversation helps bridge divides, fostering empathy and understanding across cultures. By participating, you're actively helping to overcome hate while building skills.
- Raise Awareness: Share your experience, badges, and referral links to spread the word about Acquaint. The more people who join, the more impactful our movement becomes!
Do Sessions!
Let's aim to break some records this week! Try to add at least one more session to your schedule. Be sure to update your maximum number of sessions and check your available times. Completing at least one session during Acquaint Week will earn you the exclusive Acquaint Week 2024 Session Badge!
Take Communication Training Courses!
Our communication training courses are quick and easy to complete. You can use the techniques you learn both on and off your Acquaint sessions! Not only will you receive a course completion badge, but you'll also earn the elusive "Acquaint Week 2024 Course Completion" Badge!
New Course Release: For Acquaint Week, we are excited to introduce a brand-new course, "Master the Art of Hedging." This course teaches you how to use hedging—a conversational technique that softens statements to keep discussions open and collaborative, especially when dealing with sensitive or controversial topics.
Hedging is especially useful for volunteers who want to foster more productive, understanding conversations. By practicing hedging, you'll become better at navigating tricky topics while maintaining positive and constructive dialogue, making your sessions more impactful.

Refer a Friend (or Foe!)
Share Acquaint's signup link with anyone who might be interested in volunteering using our referral feature. You can find your unique referral link on your Impact Page. If someone you refer completes the mentoring process, you'll earn our most challenging badge: the "Acquaint Week 2024 Volunteer Referrer" Badge! It’s a tough one to get—you may need to reach out to several people to succeed!

Throughout Acquaint Week, we want to hear from you! Share your experiences on Acquaint, what you've learned, and when you earn a badge. You can also share your referral link to invite others to join in!

Badge Rules
To earn "Acquaint Week" badges, it's important to follow the specific guidelines for each activity. Below are the key rules and steps to help you unlock these exclusive badges during Acquaint Week:
General Rules:
- All sessions, referrals, and courses must be completed during Acquaint Week (October 14th–20th, 2024) to count toward earning badges.
- Referral badges may take weeks or months to receive, as they are only granted once your referral completes their own mentoring sessions.
- Once you've earned a badge, it will automatically appear on your Impact Page. If you don’t see it right away, feel free to reach out to us so we can assist you!
How to Earn the Referral Badge:
- Go to your Impact Page to access your unique referral link.
- Copy your unique referral link from the "Referral" section of your Impact Page.
- Share your link with friends, family, or even foes on social media or directly, encouraging them to sign up and join the community.
- Once your referral completes their first mentoring session, you’ll earn the "Acquaint Week 2024 Volunteer Referrer" badge. Keep in mind this could take a few weeks or longer, depending on when they start their sessions.
